Colorado National Monument is a beautiful and awe-inspiring historical multi-pitch location. With a more substantial approach to the climb, the typical day begins with an alpine start. As the sun gains strength, you will find yourself ascending a desert tower while conveniently staying largely in the shade throughout the climb. Rock climbing in Colorado National Monument is a historic activity, as many of the routes were first climbed by John Otto, of the U.S. National Park Service, even before the designation of the monument. Take a step back in time and conquer this adventure-style expedition with Apex Mountain School in the stunning Colorado National Monument.

Our specific itinerary is developed according to your objectives and goals, but generally includes an alpine start for the approach hike, followed by set-up, gear and safety review, and climbing a tower in four to six pitches. Apex Mountain School guides are committed to doing everything we can to ensure your visit to Colorado National Monument exceeds your expectations. The climbing is adventure-style, with expansive views of the valley below the multi-pitch routes.

A place like no other

The desert-like landscape of Colorado National Monument was formed from uplifts, deposits, and the remnants of a sand sea. Sandstone and striated layers of rock create intense visual interest in the dramatic cliffs and monoliths of the monument. Rock climbing in these surroundings has brought a sense of perspective to climbers for decades.

Apex is a permitted guide service in the park and you can be certain that our guides will provide you with a memorable climbing experience  on our multi-pitch routes, especially as part of our tower overnight adventures.
