Ryan Hygone

Ryan grew up outside of Asheville, North Carolina, where he found his love for skiing on the icy slopes of the Southeast. He began ski patrolling in college at Appalachian State and went on to study adventure leadership and guiding in New Zealand. Ryan brings over 20 years of backcountry and mountain travel experience into every course he teaches.

He has worked as a ski patroller at Deer Valley, Big Sky, and Aspen, and spent over a decade as a river ranger with the Bureau of Land Management. Today, Ryan works full time as a firefighter and fills his days off with ski patrol and AIARE avalanche instruction.

Ryan enjoys teaching safe and confident backcountry travel and helping students build strong decision-making skills in complex mountain environments.
